LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors today unanimously approved a sweeping Department of Public Works’ (DWP) program that will significantly ease traffic congestion and increase parking availability, particularly for those who require disabled parking, in the unincorporated areas of East Los Angeles, Hacienda Heights, Northeast San Gabriel, and West Puente Valley.
The DWP program will rescind a series of current parking restrictions and implement a number of new traffic regulations that will enhance traffic flow, encourage parking turnover, provide more-adequate parking for disabled persons, and increase driver and pedestrian safety.
“These traffic-flow improvements and revisions and additions to current parking restrictions are welcome news for anyone who has struggled to navigate through the congested streets in these neighborhoods and then search to find parking there,” said Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, who represents the First District. “The residents in these communities voiced their frustrations, and we listened and responded. This plan will go a long way to improving residents’ quality of life and has the added benefit of decreasing greenhouse gases generated by vehicles idling in traffic. I’m grateful to the Department of Public Works for conducting such a thorough analysis.”

- Rescind a traffic regulation order establishing a parking prohibition from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., school days only, school buses excepted, on the north side of 1st Street between Ford Boulevard and McDonnell Avenue in the unincorporated community of East Los Angeles as established on September 4, 1979.
- Rescind a traffic regulation order prohibiting parking for a period longer than 2 hours between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., school days only, on the south side of Michigan Avenue between a point 55 feet and a point 525 feet east of Ford Boulevard in the unincorporated community of East Los Angeles as established on December 13, 2016.
- Adopt a traffic regulation order establishing a disabled person’s parking zone on the south side of Michigan Avenue between a point 55 feet and a point 75 feet east of Ford Boulevard in the unincorporated community of East Los Angeles.
- Adopt a traffic regulation order establishing a school bus loading zone from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., school days only, on the south side of Michigan Avenue between a point 75 feet and a point 520 feet east of Ford Boulevard in the unincorporated community of East Los Angeles.
- Adopt a traffic regulation order prohibiting parking for a period longer than 2 hours from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., school days only, on the south side of Michigan Avenue between a point 75 feet and a point 520 feet east of Ford Boulevard in the unincorporated community of East Los Angeles.
- Adopt a traffic regulation order establishing a disabled person’s parking zone on the west side of McDonnell Avenue between a point 35 feet and a point 55 feet south of Michigan Avenue in the unincorporated community of East Los Angeles.
