Los Angeles (September 2024)The County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation (LA County Parks) invites the community to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month September 14 to October 12. The observance of Hispanic Heritage Month serves as an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the myriad contributions of Latin American communities, honor their enduring legacy, and promote a greater understanding and appreciation of their diverse cultures and traditions.
LA County Parks is proud to provide a month of free celebrations at 61 park communities celebrating and highlighting the rich contributions and accomplishments of Latin American/Latino communities with music, art, cultural events, food and more.
Discover the diversity of this heritage – from the Caribbean to Mexico to Central and South America – as LA County Parks celebrates and honors the communities that have shaped the cultural fabric of Los Angeles County. During Hispanic Heritage Month LA County residents can taste vibrant flavors, dance to salsa, cumbia and more, and enjoy the rich traditions of many cultures.
National Hispanic Heritage Month was approved by Congress in 1968 and begins in the middle of September and continues through mid-October. The period coincides with the independence days of many Latin American countries. Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua all celebrate their independence on September 15. Mexico observes its independence on September 16, Chile on September 18, and Belize on September 21. El Día de la Raza is recognized on October 12.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a special time to recognize and highlight the diverse Latino heritage and cultures that influence so much of LA County’s history, food, arts, music, language,” said Norma Edith García-Gonzalez, Director, LA County Parks. “We invite everyone in the county to join one of our celebrations at 61 park communities to experience and enjoy Latino American culture, heritage, and community.
